Concussions
Is a concussion just a bump on the head? False!

A concussion is a traumatic brain injury.

Symptoms can range from mild to severe. The severity of the symptoms cannot be predicted at the time of injury. Concussions can cause disorientation, memory loss, slowed reaction times, and emotional upset.

The seriousness of concussions and head injuries has received heightened attention as amateur and student athletes report headaches, memory loss, depression, sleeplessness and other symptoms.

The standard medical approach has been to detect and diagnose concussions and traumatic brain injuries and simply watch and wait, unless surgery is required. New attention has been given to manual therapy as capable of assessing and addressing the vascular, structural, and neurological tissues of the brain as well as the far-reaching ramifications throughout the body.

Concussions affect the structure of the nervous system, including the glial cells, which are the glue or supporting tracts of the structures of the brain. Trauma affects the bones of the cranium and the connective tissue lining inside the skull bones, as well as a sensitive brain tissue. It is expected that the positive outcomes experienced with manual therapy, such as cranial sacral therapy, and neural manipulation, will continue the healing process for several days after the treatment.

"When I was 33 weeks pregnant, I blacked out one morning and when I hit the ground, I got a concussion. After going to hospital to try and figure out what happened, the doctors weren’t able to find what had caused me to collapse. A few weeks later I was struggling going about my day with my concussion. My balance was horrible, I was having trouble stringing words together into sentences and had continuous headaches. With one session with Victoria, my symptoms almost completely disappeared. My balance and focus came back, I was able to respond and speak with ease and my head wasn’t foggy anymore and my headaches were no longer popping up. I don’t know what I would have done if I hadn’t have had a treatment from Victoria. She takes you seriously and has a plethora of knowledge that she continues to expand day by day. I love her approach and the gentleness of her technique and modalities. If your current practitioners are coming up empty with answers or you are looking for a second opinion, don’t think twice, schedule an appointment." - Veronica De Haan
